GENERAL INFORMATION


Procedures for Parents/Visitors When Entering New Brunswick High School

1.    All parents/visitors must sign in with security personnel upon entering the school premises.
2.    After signing in, security personnel will route parent/visitors to the appropriate destination.
3.    Identification may be required by security personnel before a parent/visitor proceeds further.
4.    Every effort will be made by the administration to accommodate parents in a timely manner.
       Explanation will be given to the parent if there is a time delay.


Announcements:
All announcements must be cleared through the office of the Student Activities Coordinator. Announcements will only be read in the morning during the Homeroom period.


Change of Address and/or Phone Number:
Changes in address and/or phone number must be reported to the Attendance Office immediately.


Emergency School Closings:
When it is necessary to close the school for emergencies due to inclement weather or other reasons, announcements will be made over radio stations, starting at 5:30 a.m.

Station WADO AM (Hispanic)
Station WMGQ 98.3 FM

Tune in to any one of the aforementioned stations for your information. Please do not call the school, police station, and/or radio station.


Homeroom Change:
Buses will began to arrive at approximately 7:40 a.m. Homeroom will take place after Block 1 starting at 9:20 a.m. and ending at 9:30 a.m. Students will be assigned to one (1) homeroom per school year.


School Lockers:
Lockers are provided for storage and protection of school and personal property. It must be clearly understood that lockers are not the personal property of students. Lockers are the property of New Brunswick High School. As such, they must be locked when not in use. In order to prevent theft, the combination of any lockers should remain confidential. Each student is responsible for the cleanliness of his/her own locker and for any damages inflicted. Any problems involving lockers should be reported to room 113 (Computer Center).Students will only be allowed to visit their locker prior to period 1/block, during lunch, and after school.

Only combination locks issued by the school may be used on lockers. Any other securing device will be removed at the student's expense. The high school administration has a legal right to inspect and search each locker if, in its opinion, the situation warrants it.

Working Papers:
All persons between the ages of 14 and 18 must secure working papers before they can be employed. Working papers may be applied for at the Attendance Office. During the summer the location may change.

Lunch Tickets:
Lunch tickets will be available from homeroom teachers. Students are responsible for their own lunch tickets. Lost tickets will be replaced within five (5) school days.

Cafeteria Behavior:
It is expected that this area will be kept clean and neat. Trays, dishes, silverware, paper, and other waste materials are to be placed in the receptacles provided. It is also expected that student behavior will allow for a pleasant and orderly lunch period.

School Property:
The physical condition of a building reflects the character of the people in it. Please do not throw debris around the building or adjoining property, nor allow it to accumulate in lockers. In accordance with the New Jersey School Law-Title 18 A:37-3.

"Parents are responsible for any school property lost or damaged by student."

Malicious destruction of school property will result in suspension from school. Once textbooks are issued to students, they become responsible for the cost of any lost or damaged textbooks.

Student Dress:
Students are expected to dress neatly and modestly. Clothing which is not socially acceptable or which is disturbing to the educational process, in the opinion of the professional staff, may not be worn to school. Students not dressing in a manner appropriate for school will be sent home (parents will be contacted) to obtain more suitable attire. Students will be responsible for time missed. Hats and coats will not be permitted.

Inappropriate attire includes the following, but is not limited to:
............Any shirt or top that exposes any part of the bellybutton, stomach, chest, or breasts.
............Skin tight fitting clothes.
............Dresses or skirts more than six (6) inches above the knees.
............Open toe shoes in restricted areas.
............Pants worn below the waste line (no sagging).
............Exposed underwear.
............Headwear including curlers, stocking caps, scarves, wave caps, hats, etc.
............Coats.
